Finding My Badass Self Book Review
I instantly fell in love with Sherry at the beginning of this book.
In Finding My Badass Self, Sherry Stanfa-Stanley is 52 and decided that it’s time to push her comfort zone. She decides to create the 52/52 Project, where she’ll try 52 new things during her 52nd year of life.
The book is split up into 52 chapters, each representing a new experience.
From bikini waxes to getting lost on a Segway in Italy, this book is great for a good laugh. It’s easy to read a few chapters between other books or read the whole thing after you finish a scary thriller and need something uplifting.
One thing I have to mention is the book is full of puns. As a writer, reader, and lover of the occasional pun, I found myself cringing a bit at the end of every chapter knowing there was going to be another closing pun.
However, it isn’t a deal breaker.
The evening I finished this book, I fell asleep a little early, around 9 pm, and I wasn’t feeling the best. Despite this, my night owl of a boyfriend nudged me at 9:50 pm and said “I’m driving up to the beach. I hear they spotted the Northern Lights. Do you want to join?”
Now, I had just woken up from a bizarre dream and I really didn’t want to get out of my cozy bed. Until, Sherry spoke to me and said, “DO IT!”
I’ve never seen the Northern Lights and it seemed like a fun idea. Plus, my boyfriend is working on his spontaneity, so I wanted to support that too.
We ended up driving 40 minutes up the shore without seeing a thing, other than a nearly full moon over Lake Superior and the bright clear sky full of stars. It was still magical.
I think I’ll hold onto this book and open it back up 20-30 years down the road when I may need a little adventure in my life.
